About RenFitness
Ren Caldwell's approach to fitness and health education has evolved over the last eight years, changing to meet the needs of an ever-growing and diverse clientele. As American's daily lives speed up, more of us are falling behind in taking care of ourselves. Ren has expanded her education and services to include group training, a step that has been incredibly exciting and enjoyable as well as effective in meeting her clients' needs. She is now focusing on reaching out to young fitness professionals, bringing in fresh talent and energy to training. RenFitness is interested in providing the best experience possible for every one of our clients through a focus on each individual's goals and challenges. We use traditional weight-training machines sparingly, believing that exercises involving medicine balls, free weights and one's own body weight yield better results and are more interesting. Our focus (in classes and one-on-one sessions) is on functional training and core stability - two things people need more of than anything else in our largely sedentary culture.
Core stability is extremely important both for athletes and for those who have little time or ability to exercise. For those that are highly active, a strong core is the key to improvement in almost every facet of your sport. It can help you jump higher, run faster, kick harder, and reduce the risk of injury to joints and extremities. And if you sit all day at a computer, core strength is vital to the prevention of work-related injuries, especially in the lower back and neck. Increasing your awareness and encouraging the utilization of your core will be a focus in your training, and care will be taken to make sure you are getting the daily exercise you need in order to reach your goals.
Functional training is defined by Wikipedia as "a classification of exercise which involves training the body for the activities performed in daily life." Notice that the "activities" performed are not specified - this means that functional training is infinitely variable and should be based on your own lifestyle. Dancers need a different type of training than stay-at-home moms or bodybuilders. As obvious as this seems, many gyms and trainers still hold to the idea that their program, diet and routine should work for all people - they require their clients to fit into a mold and promise success based on adherence to their regimen. We don't promise success - we promote it, we encourage it, and we expect you to do your part in changing your own life. We see ourselves as guides, motivators, and as mirrors for you in your quest for long-term health.
Meet Ren
I have been an independent personal trainer and health and fitness consultant for eight years. My passion for helping my clients and students meet their goals is unparalleled, and I pride myself on being infinitely approachable and a blast to work with! I'm very excited to be teaching again - my previous experience was as a martial arts and dance instructor, disciplines which lend themselves well to the creative nature of group exercise classes. I am always learning from others and devouring the latest research about nutrition, exercise and health. Whether you're looking to tone up a bit, run your first marathon, try a boot camp class, get your employees into a seminar about healthy lifestyle, or take your sports performance to the next level... I'm the trainer you want in your corner.
